MARGIE FORD- mosaics etc
Perhaps it is the miracle of impressing order over a thousand little pieces that keeps me creating mosaics.
I am fascinated by the timelines mosaic has spanned, and how it endures. In a fast paced world, mosaic offers a pause, and a permanence.
I studied painting and sculpture, (BFA Rhodes University 1994 & Dip Sculp University of Natal 1996). The mosaic journey began sixteen years ago for the pleasure of combining the colour of paint and the technical journey of sculpture. Mosaic is exciting to me in its infinite variation, and I experiment with a vast range of different materials (shell, stone, glass, porcelain and ceramics) and styles. This range of materials gives my work its characteristic texture, and a shimmering play of light as you move around the work.
I have completed numerous public and private commissions, from shop floors , guesthouse bathrooms, restaurant feature walls and exterior walls.
I currently balance art teaching and mosaic work. I currently live and work in Plettenberg Bay. Mosaics Etc operates from my studio in Keurboomstrand. We undertake commissions nationally and internationally.
